100 or 1000?

The elite Lithuanian collectors adressed the Bank of Lithuania asking to mint a 1000 litas coin to commemorate the 1000 anniversary of them mentioning of Lithuania. Amongst them - dr.Stanislovas Sajauskas, collector Domininkas Kaubrys, Eugenijus Ivanauskas and many others. Bank  of Lithuania has rejected the offer, as they say - "We are asking, debating, deciding".

As once philosopher A.Juozaitis told - a historical mistake. Arguments of the bank that this coin would be too expensive for a normal person to buy, are worth nothing: if they bought coins of 200 or 500 litas value - no problem with one thousand. There would be enough occasions to strike 100 litas coins, and the 1000 denomination would very special. It is not difficult to change zeros in the model and thus adding prestige. Unfortunately, clercs failed to look globally.

We don't know why clercs did so - but we want to give a lessons to "Lietuvos žinios" (News of Lithuania; Lithuanian newspaper). Wityh all due respect for publishing a long and good article - one is not allowed to leave very bad errors here.

"O the later [coins] we could see how Stephan Batory is getting older - his beard increases..."

This is Sigismundus II Augustus who grew older in this way, not Stephan Batory! Please read any encyclopaedia, look at the portraits of the rulers: Batory did not got older, plus we see only Sigismundus Augustus in the illustration.

First coins did not replace ingots - these were used and in 1387 new ones were issued. Also, it is not mentioned, that threehalfscores were produced in pre-Mindaugas Lithuania.

In other words, dear journalists, in case you need anything, feel free to write to info(at)monetos.net, I will always consult you and give an advice. It is you after all who form the public opinion.
